Let's see how the 2009 Ox - Jo Predix turned out .....
“Worry is interest paid on trouble before it is due.” Oxnard Predictions – Year 2009
1.
No Changes to FIVE POINTS # 1 is ***DING DING ---- BOINK - Wrong - boom - no go - nixie - No Walgreens nor Walmart, nor any speedy-lube or any commercial establishment at all. – Five Points will be reserved for a special non-commercial use by the City 2. Oxnard Airport – Expanding? Will actively pursue joint-use of Mugu airstrip- counting on new administration sympathies to growth and use of government properties. Camarillo airstrip will complain, but Oxnard proposal for regional airport is entertained. ** Neutral - NOT YET !!!3. Oxnard Traffic – City Hall got a buzz-cut from Prop “V” which the proponents intended to mean VICTORY but instead meant VACANT – if anything – the whole exercise did cause the City Fathers and one new “Mama” to decide on tackling the issue – especially while there are no new homes to be rushed before the Council due to our Recession and glut of real estate. The economy did for Oxnard what the Traffic Initiative tried to perform. Prediction is that the City will be constantly reminded of traffic ‘mitigations’ and forever, this should be a concern on all future developments. ^^^^ Zippo - Rippo - Nippo - nada - nothing on this front 4. Flynn Flam Flung - With the Flynns in virtual seclusion, don’t think you’ve heard the end of them. Predictions are that John Flynn will get a call to duty for either State or a Federal post. Tim Flynn will make plans for either a run for Mayor (again) or he may challenge John Zaragoza to regain the 5th Supervisorial seat for his family. It happened with “W” in regards to his daddy G.H.W.B. ~~ 2010 is upon us - the political night was still young ..;.. 5. Gang Injunction – With the injunction still in place for both central and south-side gangs, Oxnard needs to be vigilant to any prospect of rival factions from the Mexican drug-lord gangs trying to get a foothold on our turf, here north of the border. San Diego has already reported some overflow activity from TJ. Even though the worst violence is being experienced near El Paso, be ready to see some potential action if locals allow it or invite it in. * Some replication of our injunction has taken place --- YES 6. Theatres – Lights – Cameras - Action With the City allowing a second cinema into the River Park complex, Oxnard has opened the door for another “THIRD” cinema to apply for our dollars. Prediction is a Mexican-national with Spanish and European business ties will attempt to open and run a Spanish Language film house in Oxnard. Cries for approval from the public will make it hard for the City to deny it’s entrance into our corporate limits. -- Still waiting .... 7. Juan Appleseed A friend-of-a-friend-of-a-friend of someone influential in the City, be it in the City Manager’s Office, or the Council will provide some ‘influence’ to cause the City to look at TREES. A push for more Trees will come forth this year. This is a welcome prediction in light of the Ficus trees uprooted and destroyed along A Street this past year – notice that the trees in front of the City’s former Code Enforcement (Compliance) building were left un-touched, but the businesses, especially the new wine shop had to suffer a lack of shade and higher temps inside their shops (a not so good thing for wine) so the City can say they are improving A Street. Word given the Ox –Jo is that Chinese Elms will be planted to replace them. This may be the variety seen newly planted across the street (north side of Second Street) from the new Fire Department offices….again…. the City gets the favor instead of the tax paying business people and residents…hmmmmm!
<< Pray for a push for more new trees in Oxnard >> 8. USN
The Navy will propose creating a floating carrier dock off shore of
Oxnard. With air exercises off the coast (San
Miguel Island) and carriers from the US and other forces making
off-shore visits – the Navy will propose a floating dock or adjunct
docking facility off Port Huemene in order to provide better support
to the fleet. With NAS Alameda gone, the Navy on
has one major shore facility on the Pacific, that being Sand Dog to
the south and Bummertown to the north. ** Lively Idea - let's push for it in 2010....! 9. Sports Pahk With the new Council in place, it appears all votes will be 5-0 for the next two years. This means getting through the necessary votes and approvals for the Sports Park at Channel Islands will become a reality. Be on the lookout for some scandalous news regarding the franchise to come forth (ala Bernie Madoff) to taint any possibilities of the deal in Oxnard going any further than it has. Oxnard Recreational bosses will propose a second idea which will garner huge public favor and forever free us alcohol-laden bat-totting ballers from finding refuge in our largest public park. **Actually *** DING DING DING - Oxnard's multi-use of College Park answers some of this prediction !!! 10. City Streets The City, in an effort to prove good use of new .05 sales tax we approved with Measure “O”, will direct more effort on street paving in the Spring – with a focus to South Oxnard. //\\//\\\/\\/\/ Kind of Side Ways - Oxnard has proposed a citizen committee to oversee Measure O income, 11. Small Industry – Housing prices and the economy will oddly lead to an increase of leased office and new light industrial. Again – look to Spring for movement. ==--== could happen . 12. New Council. No one ever said they got what they voted for – as candidates who take office sometimes gain a new ‘self’ whence they take office. We are seeing this with Obama’s choice of Pastor Rick Warren for the inaugural invocation. Keep an eye on Irene Pinkhard – she has some surprises for Oxnard – Good Ones. "Your time is still open for some shining - standing out from the "Crowd" 13. COLonia ~ COOPer ~ CAMino del Sol So many roads – So many choices !!! --- What and how are we going to solve the issue of the proposed Camino del Sol R/R Crossing. The City wants to connect Camino del Sol with Oxnard Boulevard. In order to do this – the Railroad will allow only two crossings in such close proximity. The City wants to close Cooper or Colonia. Residents of La Colonia want neither and see the encroachment of La Camino del la Sol de Oxnard upon the original tract crossings of COOPER y COLONIA. Expect a Battle Royale, or una battalglia real. ** Surprisingly this battle never took place, but the issues of the rail crossings still linger .... expect positive action in 2010. 14. Gadflies get second swoop. With the annihilation of the Traffic Initiative and the loss of Vox Populi Timotheous Flynnii ~ expect a new approach from the galleria del cacaheutes.
An interesting development happened under the
radar of Zaragoza elevating and Flynn deflating – that was the
election of a new Chair for the INCF (Inter-Neighborhood Council
Forum). Joe Avelar from Lemonwood NC served as
chair of the INCF from 2006-2008, Bill Winter
served there from 2004-2006, -- INCF for 2010 has some surprizes, but the gadflies flew -- Bert Perello served as INCF Chair in 2009 and now Sandy Gonzales takes the helm. INCF will continue to serve and do some interesting things this year.... 15. What’s in a Name ¿ The City of Oxnard will look into some re-naming this year. In another attempt to physically change “A” Street, the City will look to renaming it…the curves and mall of “A” between 4th and 2nd. - The lesson learned in that change was well learnt – now the next modification will come through a naming convention. – Look to a re-naming of Camino Del Sol for facilitation of a railroad crossing. ** Missed this one - thank goodness . 16. Levitz & Wagon Wheel This dilapidated section of what should be the stellar entry to the wonderful city of Ozna will remain as it is now for the next year – trust me…. Major attention to this swath of real estate along the 101 - hysterical preservation lost out to industrialized gentrification and transportation needs over-ran the old barracks set up by Martin V. Smith. At least the old Colonial House Chimney still stands along A Street. -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-
