The Greater Oxnard Chamber of Commerce -PRESS RELEASE ~~~

OXNARD CHAMBER OF COMMERCE SUPPORTS GAMING, - With a Caveat.

On Apri118, 2001, the Greater Oxnard Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors voted to support the idea of tribal gaming in Oxnard by agreeing to the following statement.

"The Chamber supports the introduction of mdian gaming in Oxnard, so long as it is offered in a facility which meets the same high-quality standards of location, design and development that any other commercial project would have to meet in the city."

According to Board Chairman Marv King, "The Chamber has researched current information relating to a potential tribal gaming facility in Oxnard. We have been open to hearing both the pro and the con of this issue, and we remain so. We remain open to further discussion, because as a business advocate, we support the retention, expansion and introduction of business into the Greater Oxnard area."

King said that the Chamber believes that any new business proposal should be heard, and that due process should be given. "We believe that business and community needs are inseparable, II said King. "We believe that the city , business and community should be diligent and disciplined enough to allow the process to get answers to the questions and concerns about any venture that comes before the city or other governing groups. "

King pointed out that the Chamber's motto, "To Help Business do Business," means exactly what it says, and that the Greater Oxnard Chamber of Commerce has a long-standing track record of supporting what it believes is good for the city as a whole.

The Greater Oxnard Chamber of Commerce is a membership organization of over 500 business and individuals from throughout the Oxnard area. It provides services to individual businesses and the community such as networking, advertising, advocacy, support of the military , community recognition and is a resource for local events. The Chamber has several committees that provide a vehicle for members to address issues and discuss programs which enhance and improve the business and community climate.
