Members of the Board for the Downtown Partnership (PBID) met for their monthly meeting at Heritage Square on Monday, June 21st and were given a power-point presentation and report on the status of crime in the downtown area over the past year. 

Senior Officer Scott Swenson of the Oxnard Police presented a review for the fiscal year 2003-2004.  Officer Swenson mentioned that prior to the issuance and announcement of the "gang injunction" crime was being reported at a moderate rate.  "Since the injunction," Swenson reported, "crime has steadily decreased, so there has been a noticeable effect."  This decrease was not only noticed in the downtown, but city-wide Swenson said.

Officer Swenson also noted the proposal to add an additional seven sworn officers to be assigned to the Downtown sub-station.  The proposal for budgeting these officers was addressed at the Oxnard City Council budget meeting held on Tuesday June 22nd.  It is anticipated, that the budget for the additional police personnel will be approved and the additional assets will benefit central Oxnard and the adjoining beats.

Police Chief Art Lopez was also in attendance at the Downtown Partnership meeting.  At the meeting, public comments were offered by Alex Rivera regarding 'areas of attention' needing work in the downtown and Bill Winter, Chair of the Wilson Historic Neighborhood, who invited downtown business owners to participate in the neighborhood meetings and activities.

The Partnership Board meets monthly and reports on progress relating to improvements in the downtown.
