Will Mayor Holden Fire them all....

With closed sessions all but done it seems all plans for change in Oxnard City's Hired Help may not take place.  As the City Manager and City Attorney remain in place - no further discussion about their performance seems eminent, and with an election coming up incumbents are not anxious to upset the "Status Quo" which is their standard for remaining in office.  With the two new fire-brands on the Council - perhaps change was expected, but surprisingly enough, there is no drive or motion from Flynn and Ramirez to oust the Manager or Attorney.

With the District Attorney's office rummaging through "Cafe on A" receipts and trying to find the smoking gun under Daniel Martinez's foot-spa, it may not be a prudent move to upturn things more on the fourth floor at City Hall.

So a year has passed and nothing of note has surfaced since the raids - insiders say there is way too much stuff to look into and by volume Oxnard may be the mother lode for investigators, but will the assay turn up real corruption or just fools gold?

PERELLO - CITY COUNCIL 2012

Bert Perello, in a surprise announcement, told members of the Inter-Neighborhood Council Forum (INCF) meeting on November 2nd that he was throwing his hat into the ring and running for Oxnard City Council.

A long time local advocate of the common citizen, Bert has been extremely faithful in attending as many City meetings as possible.  His list of contributions would fill a book. He has proven his love for Oxnard and has shown his desire to help by his persistent drive and attention to the details of city governance.  Just like the loveable detective, Columbo, Perello comes to the Council and asks questions that probe and prove a good grasp of "what is really going on."  On November 14th Bert went to City Hall to obtain the papers needed for filing and for the beginning steps of being an official candidate.

Bert's task will be to unseat either Pinkard or MacDonald - provided either files papers again to run.  In the event one does not file, then a vacancy on the Council will assuredly go to Bert.

Like with any campaign, most everything boils down to money and Bert will need to realize that cash is king on the road to politics.  Name recognition may be an issue, as mostly insiders and wonks who watch the City Channel will know him well, but he does come from a long standing Oxnard family and with the mood for change and perhaps a continuing anti-incumbent flare-out - timing may favor Bert in his quest.

The Oxnard Journal can  think of no one more qualified to sit on the Council.  Bert has been pro-active in issues concerning the Santa Clara River, ever since that smell from riverbed to the more recent FEMA controversies, Bert has lead the citizen's cry and has stood for what is right, not what is convenient or politically expedient.  He sees a City in need of someone who will look into every issue and not be satisfied with curt and simple answers.

Perello stated his goals as such:

1. To ensure the Oxnard Tax Payer's money is spent appropriately and with accountability.

2. To ensure all neighborhoods are treated equally regardless of the north, south, east, or west, within the City.

3. To ensure the public's simple questions are addressed with clear simple answers when dealing with the Health, Safety, and Welfare of the Oxnard Community, especially when dealing with Tax Payer's Money and Resources
