Oxnard's Hardest Working People. . . . .

In response to Monday's Star Newspaper, where Dr. Irene Pinkhard was singled out as one of Ventura County's Hardest Working Persons --- the Oxnard Journal offers this article in the spirit of the Fairness Doctrine which broadcast media usually adheres too -- it would be nice if newspapers did the same.

So here are the people the Star missed highlighting......

SAUL MEDINA:  Saul carries on a 40+ hour per week job helping youth who have been disadvantaged and are in trouble.  Saul also serves on Oxnard's Mobile Home Rent Review Board.  Saul holds a Master's Degree from San Jose State and was recently elected President of the Oxnard 'G.O.O.D' Club (Oxnard Democrats) and in addition to this Saul  is running a full campaign for one of the Oxnard City Council seats.

JOHN ZARAGOZA:  John is a busy man - he runs and operates a local real estate office (Home Finders) and is a Realtor.  A former Oxnard Department Head (Refuse Dept.) John knows many residents, fields their calls when they come in to his home or office and handles problems at the lowest level, by acting immediately and directly to satisfy his constituents.  John is a member of several Boards and is a father and grand-dad.  He is seeking re-election for a third term on the Oxnard City Council.

BILL WINTER:  Bill is busy guy serving the citizens of Oxnard by providing news on his website: The Oxnard Journal.
He also serves as Chair of his Neighborhood Council (Wilson Historic Neighborhood) and is Chair of Oxnard's Inter-Neighborhood Council Forum (INCF).  He logs in many hours of volunteer work to the community in his duties as Chairs of both organizations.  He is a freelance writer and assists screenwriters on a world-wide screenwriter e-mail list with finding markets for their works. He is an Assistant-Producer for K-Film Gold in Los Angeles.  Bill is running an active campaign for Mayor of Oxnard

TIM FLYNN:  Tim is a full-time father, History and German Teacher, and a very active member of his Neighborhood Council (Wilson Neighborhood).  He has been a stalwart worker for this father, Supervisor John Flynn, in his Dad's past campaigns.  Flynn is actively seeking a seat on the Oxnard City Council and is spending his excess waking hours walking precincts, making speeches and fundraising.

BOB SUMPTER:  Bob is a full-time consultant and auto industry advisor.  Just recently moved to Oxnard in the last four years from Whittier, California, Bob got involved in the race for Mayor when he saw how the Oxnard City Council treated the people who came to Council to speak at public comment and ask for redress on some rather important issues.

TOM HOLDEN:  Tom is a former Oxnard City Councilman and is seeking a re-seating on the Council as Mayor.
Tom is extremely active with a full-time Optometric Practice with his wife Dr. Linda Knapp.  Tom is a father and active Board Member on several local boards.

AL DUFF:  Regardless of Al's retirement, you would never know it.  Al is a 24/7 man who will answer phone calls at any hour and address issues that need immediate attention.  Duff serves on the often-controversial Planning Commission and is a voice of reason on that panel.  Al is on his second bid for an Oxnard City Council Seat.   He is a father and grand-dad and loves his hometown.

DIEDRE FRANK:  Ms. Frank can be seen about town driving her 'Jag' with the LAW QUEN license plates.  She lives out at the shores and is mostly associated with Ventura as her practice is there.  She is best known for her radio ads, formerly on KVEN and now on KVTA.  She is an active lawyer who gets good settlements for injured people and she is always open to hear your views.  Her schedule is so busy that she has a team of helpers who assist her in the run for Mayor of Oxnard.

JOHN FLYNN:  A candidate for his Supervisor Seat for what (the 8th time) - John is on top of ALL the issues. He personally answers all his e-mail, attends every County Meeting for the Supers and is locally famous for his 'shoe-leather' campaigns where he attributes his success to actually walking his district.  A political machine that runs like the energizer rabbit - Flynn is truly one of Ventura County's hardest working people.

DR. MANUEL M. LOPEZ:  A living legend in his town of Oxnard.  Known affectionately as "Mr. Mayor", Lopez has been a fixture on the City Council for almost three decades of service.  Lopez maintains a grueling schedule and when asked 'what is the most important aspect of being Mayor' - Lopez replied, "It takes a lot of work."  Dr. Lopez manages an Optometric practice in the Downtown, is a Full-Time Mayor, attends countless meetings, handles citizen concerns, is a father, grandfather and loving husband of wife Irma.  Mayor Lopez came out on top of the challenge against Supervisor Flynn for the District 5 Seat and is actively campaigning to be the next District 5 County Supervisor.
